Scented candles continue to grow in popularity and use; they symbolise celebration and romance, they can soothe the senses and accent the style of home decor.
Here are 8 ways you can benefit from burning candles:
ATMOSPHERE & AMBIANCE
The flicker of candlelight has the ability to change the ambiance of a space in a way that simply cannot be replicated. The lighting of a few strategically placed candles in your home can create a cosy and intimate atmosphere. Adding a candle here and there will create softness in your spaces and instantly provide a sense of warmth.
Candles are known for their soothing, healing properties and are often used by therapists, such as yogi’s and massage therapists, to help them create a peaceful ambiance in their therapy rooms. Give it a try the next time you have a stressful day: light a candle, watch the flame and simply concentrate on breathing for a few minutes.
Scented Soy Wax Candles can help you relax, feel calm, energized and help you achieve a more productive mindset. Lavender candles help ease your mind and relieve stress. Eucalyptus candles can be energizing and improve focus. Citrus candles are invigorating and can help to relieve anxiety and depression.
ROMANCE & CELEBRATIONS
Whether you’re putting candles atop a cake or attempting to create a romantic setting for a candlelit dinner to celebrate an anniversary with your significant other, candles are a wonderful way to set the mood.

Scented Candles also make perfect gifts and a nice treat for yourself! Our beautifully packaged, strong scented soy wax candles are lovingly hand poured to ensure the highest quality and the best fragrance throw.
DECOR
Candles are a sleek and stylish way to add those finishing touches to any room. Lumos Apothecary candles are very versatile; our grey jars will compliment almost any style of decoration and don’t forget our reed diffusers for a long lasting alternative to lighting a candle. To create a spa-like retreat in your bathroom we’d recommend ‘Baignoire’. The name itself is French for bathtub and we’ve found it adds a luxurious freshness in either a reed diffuser or a candle. For those cosy nights in by the fire, try ‘Fireside’ or ‘Starry Night’; the his and hers of deluxe scented candles. No matter what your approach to interior design is, candles add to your home decor.
FRAGRANCE
Soy wax scented candles are the perfect way to subtly add fragrances to your space and in some cases cover-up unwelcome odours. There are a number of fragrance types: citrus & fresh, floral, fruity, woody & oriental or seasonal festive favourites. No matter what atmosphere you're hoping to create, there is a fragrance to match.
Candles made from soy wax are soot free, non-toxic, clean burning and last much longer than paraffin wax candles (which produce black soot and release toxic carcinogens into the air.) Learn more about why we choose to use soy wax.
SELF EXPRESSION
Just like everyone has different tastes in fashion and music, everyone has particular fragrance preferences and each person experiences scents differently. Showcase your individuality and personality with the candles you choose to burn, and just like your fashion choices, you shouldn’t feel insecure about what you like. Embrace it! People may even come to associate that particular aroma with spending time with you.
HEALTH
Burning candles can be beneficial to your health. A pivotal part of living a healthy lifestyle is taking care of both your body and your mind. Lighting candles can provide the perfect atmosphere to induce a calm sense of well-being.
MEDITATION
We’ve supplied candles to a number of yogi’s and therapeutic professionals. They all use candles during meditation and yoga sessions and it’s a wonderful way to support your practice. There are many visualization exercises and manifestation techniques that involve focusing on the flickering flame of a burning candle whilst sending your intentions into the universe. You can’t beat our Namaste candle for providing the perfect boost to soothing your mind, body and soul.

MEMORIES
Our sense of smell is strongly tied with memory, so we often associate a specific scent with a moment or memory. Biologists have recently identified a strong link between memory and olfaction (the process of recognizing odours). On the subject Afif Aqrabawi, a PhD candidate in the Department of Cell & Systems Biology in the Faculty of Arts & Science at University of Toronto, and lead author of a study published this month in Nature Communications said “When these elements combine, a what-when-where memory is formed, this is why, for example, you might have the ability to remember the smell of a lover's perfume (the what) when you reminisce about your first kiss (the when and where)”.
We've had some truly wonderful experiences of watching people being transported back to a memory when smelling a certain scent. At a recent craft fair we took great pleasure in witnessing a lady beam with happiness when smelling our Karma candle for the first time. She closed her eyes, went back and took in the aroma at least 3 more times before smiling at us and telling us it took her back to her childhood in India. One of our friends who also grew up in India tells us he really does feel it 'smells like home' - which we love!
We were also saddened, but deeply warmed, by one of our lovely customers experiencing our Fireside candle for the first time recently. As tears started to roll down her cheeks she told us how the scent reminded her so strongly of her late husband, even 15 years after his passing. This was such a beautiful moment.
